Chengdu-Xining-Lhasa Highlights 9 days Tour
Day 1 Chengdu Arrival
Welcome to Chengdu! Upon your arrival, your personal local guide will meet you right in the hall on time, with a board sighed with your name. Then a comfortable private car and experienced driver will take you to Chengdu hotel safely.
Day 2 Chengdu
After breakfast, your personal guide will pick you up and take you to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding where you will have a close contact with the cute Giant Pandas.Then drive back to the Wenshu Temple where you can have a relaxing time sitting in a tea house and enjoying a cup of traditional Chinese tea.After that, you will take a trip to Jinli Old Street, roaming through one of the oldest streets to appreciate the local snacks and artifacts.
Day 3 Chengdu - Xining by Flight
Today, you will visit the Dufu Thatched Cottage which is a museum in honor of Dufu (712 -770 AD), who was the greatest realist poet and has been famed as the Sage of Poetry.After lunch, your tour guide will escort you to the airport for your flight to Xining.
Day 4 Xining - Qinghai Lake
After breakfast, your personal guide will take you to visit Qinghai Lake, 150 km west of Xining. It is the largest salt water lake in China. Seeing it from the window of the train, you will feel the lake is larger than the sea.Cruise on the lake and visit the Bird Island in the lake. On route, you will also visit the Riyue Mountains and the Ri Pagoda and Yue Pagoda which hich were built in Tang Dynasty to commemorate the intermarriage of marrying Princess Wencheng of Tang to Tubo. In nearby, you will also be amazed by the Daotang River which flows oppositely.Then drive back to Xining Hotel.
Day 5 Xining - Lhasa by Train
After breakfast, drive about 26km to visit the famous Taer Monastery. Taer Monastery is the birthplace of the Tibetan Buddhism master – Tsongkhapa who was the founder of Gelug. It is also a very important institute to learn Buddhism, Astronomy and Medicine. There are many Buddhist ceremonies organized here in each year.Get back to Xining city for the train to Tibet. Enjoy the fantastic plateau views along this highest railway in the world.
Day 6 Lhasa Arrival
Welcome to Lhasa! Upon your arrival at Gonggar airport, your personal Tibetan guide will meet you right in the hall on time, with your name sign. Then a comfortable private car and experienced driver will take you to Lhasa hotel safely. It is about 65km from the airport to Lhasa city and takes less than an hour through the Airport Expressway. It is only 25km from the railway station and takes about half an hour.After checking into your hotel, the rest of day is free for you to have a good rest and acclimatize yourself to the high altitude at the top of the world.
Day 7 Lhasa
After breakfast, your personal guide and driver will pick you and drive to visit the splendid Potala Palace, which is Lhasa's cardinal landmarks. You will have a whole morning to explore this world-level architectural works: White Palace, Red Palace, corridors and stairs and countless lama's dormitory. Others include: Buddha statues, red-robed lamas and devoted, murals, etc.
In the afternoon, you will walk to visit the age-old Jokhang Temple, as the spiritual center of Tibet, which will deeply impress you with its magnificence and sincere pilgrims. You will see pilgrims donating butter oil to keep the lights burning for the Buddha; learning Tibetan Buddhism; hearing the red-robed Lamas praying; taking photos of the gold roof and enjoying the beautiful sunshine of Lhasa.Finally, you will have a relaxing walk around Jokhang Temple at Barkhor Street, which is the oldest street in Lhasa, and full of religious atmosphere, showcasing Tibetan culture, economy, religion and arts assemble. Then transfer back to the hotel.
Day 8 Lhasa
After breakfast at your hotel, you are driven to visit the Norbulingka Park, which is the former summer palace for successive Lamas holding festival celebrations. You will explore the most beautiful and largest man-made garden in Tibet and soak up its rich history. After that, turn to visit Drepung Monastery, which was ever the largest monastery with more than 10 thousand monks, and now is one of three great monasteries in Lhasa. Seen from the distant, its grand, white construction gives the appearance of a heap of rice.In the afternoon, you will be driven to visit Sera Monastery, which is famous for the unique “Daily Scriptures Debating” activity held from 3:30pm to 5pm in the central courtyard. Then transfer back to the hotel.
Day 9 Lhasa Departure
Today is free for you until you are escorted to the airport or railway station for departure on your own. Your Chengdu Lhasa tour ends.
